Hijri to Gregorian Date Conversion: How It Works
Published 28 October 2026 by Adawat
The Hijri calendar follows the moon, and the Gregorian calendar follows the sun. That is why the same event falls on a different Gregorian date each year.
Why the dates shift
A Hijri year is about 354 or 355 days, while a Gregorian year is about 365 days. So Hijri dates move roughly 11 days earlier against the Gregorian calendar every year.
Why a date can differ by one day
Hijri months begin with the sighting of the new moon, and countries do not always sight it on the same day. A converted date can therefore be one day off from the official announcement.
How to convert a date
- Open the Hijri and Gregorian dates tool.
- Enter the date and choose which calendar it is in.
- Read the converted date.
For religious occasions or official documents, always confirm the date with the official announcement in your country.
