How to Calculate 15% VAT: Add or Remove VAT from a Price
Published 24 October 2026 by Adawat
The standard VAT rate in Saudi Arabia is 15 percent at the time of writing. Whether you are pricing a product or checking an invoice, there are only two calculations to remember.
Add VAT to a price
Multiply the price before VAT by 1.15. For example, 1,000 SAR before VAT becomes 1,150 SAR. The VAT amount is 150 SAR.
Remove VAT from a total
Divide the VAT-inclusive total by 1.15. For example, 1,150 SAR including VAT is 1,000 SAR before VAT, and the VAT inside the total is 150 SAR.
A common mistake
Do not take 15 percent off the total to remove VAT. Fifteen percent of 1,150 is 172.50, which is wrong. VAT is 15 percent of the price before tax, not of the total.
Use the calculator
- Open the VAT calculator.
- Enter the amount and the VAT rate.
- Choose whether the amount is before VAT or including VAT.
- Read the net price, the VAT and the total.
You can also create a full invoice with VAT using the Invoice maker. Rates and rules change, so check the current guidance from your tax authority before you file anything.
